Tesla Vehicle History Check
The title record is only half the story on an EV — £3 covers the half a service history can't.
Buying a used Tesla means checking two separate things: the legal title history, and the car's own electrical condition. The £3 check handles the first — outstanding finance, the stolen marker, write-off category, scrapped status, keeper history, plate changes, MOT and tax status and a retail valuation — exactly as it would for any other UK-registered vehicle.
High repair costs on Tesla body and battery components push borderline accident damage into write-off territory more readily than on a cheaper car, so a repaired Cat S or Cat N Model 3 is not unusual in the used market. Battery state-of-health and software history sit outside any title database — those need their own inspection at viewing, alongside the history report.
What to check on a used Tesla
- Write-off category — expensive battery and body repair costs mean more Cat S/N write-offs than mainstream badges.
- Outstanding finance — high purchase prices mean a large share of used Teslas still carry agreements.
- Keeper history — check the ownership pattern matches what the seller describes.
- Stolen marker and plate changes — worth checking on any high-value car before you commit.
- Battery health and software update history aren't in the title record — ask the seller and use the car's own diagnostics at viewing.
Does the £3 check show battery health?
No — battery state-of-health isn't part of any title-history database. The report covers finance, stolen marker, write-off category, keepers, plates, MOT, tax and valuation; battery condition needs checking through the car's own diagnostics or a specialist inspection at viewing.
Are used Teslas more likely to be write-offs?
Repair costs on battery and body components are high, so insurers write damaged Teslas off at damage levels a cheaper car might survive — meaning a meaningful share of used stock has a Cat S or Cat N history. The write-off section of the report shows the category and date.
What's included in the check?
Outstanding finance, stolen marker, write-off category, scrapped status, keeper history, plate changes, MOT and tax status and a retail valuation, for any UK-registered Tesla.
