Peugeot Vehicle History Check

Budget-friendly and fleet-heavy — £3 shows which kind of 208 or 2008 you're really buying.

The 208 and 2008 are volume sellers at the affordable end of the market, and affordable cars attract two things in particular: heavy ex-fleet and ex-rental use, and — at the very lowest prices — logbook loans, where the car is used as security for a loan the seller may not have settled. Neither shows up in a photo or a test drive.

Ex-fleet Peugeots aren't a problem on their own; they're usually serviced to schedule. The issue is knowing which kind of history you're buying and pricing accordingly. Our £3 check reports outstanding finance — including logbook loans — the stolen marker, write-off category, scrapped status, keeper history, plate changes, MOT and tax and a retail valuation.

What to check on a used Peugeot

  1. Outstanding finance, including logbook loans — the budget end of the market is where these surface most.
  2. Keeper history — ex-fleet and ex-rental 208s often show multiple early keepers; that's normal, but it should match the advert.
  3. Write-off category — cheap repairs on volume cars are common at clean-car prices.
  4. MOT history — mileage consistency matters more the cheaper the car.
  5. Valuation — check the asking price against the report's retail figure before you negotiate.

What's a logbook loan and why does it matter?

It's a loan secured against the car itself rather than the buyer's credit — common at the budget end of the market. If the loan isn't settled, the lender can reclaim the car even after you've paid the seller. The finance section of the £3 check flags it before you hand over money.

Is an ex-rental 208 worth buying?

It can be — rental fleets are usually maintained on schedule, and the price should reflect the history. The keeper record in the report tells you which kind of car you're looking at so you can negotiate accordingly.

Is £3 worth it on a cheap car?

More so, not less — the lowest-priced cars are exactly where logbook loans and undisclosed write-off repairs concentrate. £3 against even a modest purchase price is proportionally the smallest diligence cost in motoring.
