Temporary Motorbike Insurance
Riding a bike that isn't yours, or one you've just bought? Short-term cover through our specialist bike underwriter.
Short-term bike cover is genuinely hard to find — most temporary insurers stop at cars and vans, which is why riders end up pushing a newly bought bike home in a van. We cover motorcycles through a specialist bike underwriter, from 1 to 14 days, with the same instant-documents process as our car policies.
Riding home a bike you’ve just bought, borrowing a friend’s bike, getting an untaxed project to its MOT, or covering a bike between annual policies — enter the registration, the quote identifies it as a motorcycle automatically, and your certificate is emailed within minutes of payment.
Short-term bike cover in practice
- Riding home a motorbike you've just bought — legal from the seller's driveway.
- Borrowing a friend's bike for a trip or event.
- Taking a project bike to a pre-booked MOT.
- Covering the gap between annual bike policies.
- 1 to 14 days; the policy ends automatically with nothing to cancel.
Most temp insurers don't do bikes — do you really?
Yes — motorcycles are covered through a specialist bike underwriter on our panel. Enter the registration and the quote matches automatically; if a specific bike can't be covered, the quote says so before you pay anything.
What licence do I need?
A licence valid for the machine you're riding — full category A/A2/A1 as appropriate. The quote asks your licence details and only offers cover the underwriter will honour.
Can I insure a bike that's been seized by police?
Impounded motorcycles need our impound release insurance rather than the standard temporary product — see the impound motorbike page or start an impound quote with the registration.
